Area 3 members own and compete on a wide range of breeds including Highland ponies, Welsh ponies and cobs, traditional cobs, Arabians and also the various western breeds. As with all clubs and societies some members enjoy competition and others prefer to be enthusiastic supporters.  There are plenty of opportunities for either! A number of our members compete at National level, but the focus at all of our events is to have fun and enjoy our horses and each other’s company in a very relaxed and informal atmosphere. That goes for officials and competitors alike. Check out this picture - and that's WES Chairman David Brindley!

Even if you don’t feel you want to join straight away come to one of our events and let the folk there help you with answers to your questions. That's how most of us started, and we're always happy to talk about our sport.

Western Equestrian Society members in Devon have created a complementary website which is a focal point for communication and sharing of information across Devon. The WES in Devon website is full of useful information about planned events, and includes a series of very informative "How to..." guides. If you ever wanted to learn...

  • how to tie a rope halter
  • how to make your own rope halter
  • how to improve your showmanship
  • how to tie a mecate rein
  • how to make your own mounting block
  • how to rope
... or if you want to follow the training of a young western horse, via "Skooter's Blog" - just click on the Devon flag to the right.  The WES in Devon website is regularly updated with new guides and information, so add it to your favourites and keep checking it out!
